David and Harry recently experienced what it would be like to work in a coffee shop when they visited the Busy Beans Café in Moonee Ponds as part of the OC Connections Towards Employment Pathway.
The BusyBeans barista program is an AimBig (Disability Employment Service) initiative where people with a disability are trained with the knowledge and specialised skills to become baristas.
Operating from their café in Moonee Ponds and an on-site kitchen in Frankston, participants get real-life experience making and serving coffee, welcoming customers and taking orders.
David and Harry, along with Towards Employment facilitator Hannah, visited the site to learn more about the program and the skills required to become a barista. They also had the opportunity to make some coffees on-site to see if the experience was something they would like to explore further. The participants rostered on were very welcoming to our visitors. They also made a mean Café Latte.
The visit to the Busy Beans Café is just one of the experiences that the Towards Employment group will have over the next few weeks as part of their exploration of job opportunities and the skills involved.
They will also be visiting the OCCE Defence Administrative Assistance Program (DAAP) in action, a short-form video production agency, OCCE Car Wash and even a farm, to name a few.
