School Leaver Employment Support (SLES) Services in Mulgrave, Victoria

Empowering the next generation!

Towards Employment is a School Leavers Employment Support (SLES) pathway that helps young people aged up to 22 years old, transition from school into employment by developing their independence and workforce skills.

The pathway is delivered part-time over two years, and is individually tailored to each participant, ensuring support needs, personal goals and interests are identified and considered.

Our Approach

1.
Create a customised Employment Plan

We believe in the power of personalised support. Our team takes the time to understand each individual's skills, interests, and goals to create a customised employment plan, identifying goals, support needs and learning requirements.

2.
Develop a wide range of skills

Through a variety of training and development opportunities, we equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the workplace. From communication and problem-solving to job-specific skills, we help individuals build a strong foundation for their career.

3.
Get hands-on work experience

Participants then benefit from hands-on experience in a variety of jobs and workplaces. From barista training, to car washing, packing to manufacturing, we ensure participants have the opportunity to try different jobs and environments to find what they truly enjoy.

4.
Review goals and refine skills

After the first year, the Individual Employment Plan is reviewed and renewed to support the development and training of necessary skills related to the individual’s chosen and desired employment pathway.

5.
Secure a job or go on to study

When work ready, we can connect participants with partnering Employment Services and business networks to find ongoing employment. Participants are also supported to undertake additional training or further studies with an RTO if desired.

6.
Receive ongoing employment support

Our commitment doesn't end with job placement. We provide ongoing support to individuals and employers to ensure a successful and sustainable employment relationship. Our team is always there to address any challenges or provide additional assistance as needed.

The benefits of towards employment

Independence and empowerment

The Towards Employment SLES pathway empowers individuals with disabilities to overcome barriers and achieve their personal goals, as well as career goals.

Participants and their families have reported increases in social skills, communication, confidence and independence.

“Since commencing the SLES program we started to put Harry into a taxi with his peers from the program and they would all travel together. Prior to this, we never imagined Harry would be able to travel in a taxi without us. He can now also catch public transport because that was something that he received training in. Harry has really grown up and matured,”

Diverse experiences

  • Working together with participants and care teams, the Towards Employment pathway provides an opportunity for participants to experience a wide variety of employment options in a supported and safe environment.
"The enjoyment that Harry has gotten out of different jobs such as car washing, coffee making or packing, and working out where his strengths lie has really been fantastic to witness.”

Lasting impact

Towards Employment is not just about finding a job; it’s about building a sustainable future. We aim to create a lasting impact by supporting individuals throughout their employment journey and facilitating opportunities for career advancement.

“I would highlight the importance of not ruling out an opportunity for your child because you as a parent may think they are not ready, or they won’t succeed. If you don’t try it, you will just not know.”
