The Towards Employment students commenced face to face study at Mackie Road Neighbourhood House in January, very excited after a long break.
The students started an eight-week course, Keys to Success Program (KSP) run by facilitator Jon Slingsby from VALID (Victorian Advocacy League for Individuals with Disability). Eight employees from OC Connections Enterprises (OCCE) were also chosen to participate in the course.
The VALID Keys to Success Program (KSP) is a self-advocacy training course that supports people to learn about speaking up and having a say.
The Keys to Success Program will help people to be confident in speaking up when making choices and decisions about their lives and when setting goals. The training will be helpful for participants when they undertake planning with the National Disability Insurance Agency and Disability Services.
Alongside their study, the group have also had the opportunity to do some work experience at Melbourne’s Cheapest Cars in Moorabbin, as part of the OCCE Car Wash Team.
Hannah Isles, Towards Employment Facilitator, said that the participants did a great job cleaning the outside of the cars, the windows, the body of the car and rims of the tyres.
Hannah said she is looking forward to Term two when she hopes to bring back some of the guest speakers that presented to the group via Zoom during the 2020 lockdown and finally meet them face to face!
