Laura Champion, Administration Support Officer at OC Connections has gone above and beyond her day-to-day role at OC Connections.
In her own time, Laura developed a fun online music quiz for OC Connections residents. With the support of staff, each of the houses eagerly logged on to join in.
Using the online quiz platform, Kahoot! Laura created a 21 question multiple-choice quiz featuring questions about music and artists from an era popular with residents.
The questions revolved around music artists such as ABBA, John Farnham, AC/DC, The Beatles, Wham, Bon Jovi, Elvis and The Bee Gees and featured a short 20-second music video clip to watch and listen to, after which the teams were provided multiple-choice questions to answer.
There were only a few minor technical issues but overall, the activity rolled out perfectly.
Laura worked with staff during the activity to ensure that the residents who wanted to get involved, were able to. Those who found the online platform challenging simply called out their answers.
Laura says that because the residents were so knowledgeable on this topic, the quiz finished earlier than expected. To keep the fun going, Laura took requests for songs and broadcasted the selected music videos for everyone to enjoy.
The houses who took part received a box of chocolates from Laura which she kindly delivered over the weekend. The event was a fabulous success with both staff and residents asking for it to be a regular event, and Laura confirms that plans are underway to make this happen. The following feedback was received:
“The feedback from our resident meeting today was that everyone just loved the quiz on the weekend.” Rob Easy, Team Leader
“The ladies had a great time! They enjoyed it a lot. Thank you for your time and the chocolates.” Carlos, Team Leader
OC Connections CEO Therese Desmond said of Laura’s initiative, “It was a thoughtful and beautiful thing to do. It shows kindness, thoughtfulness and the willingness to go above and beyond to support people.”
Thank you, Laura, for bringing joy to others in your own time.
