Congratulations to OC Connections Community Living participant, Kathy, who was awarded a 2018 social housing volunteer award on Wednesday 27 February this year.
Kathy received the Frances Penington Award in recognition of her outstanding voluntary contribution to her local community. These awards publicly acknowledge an individual tenant or a group of tenants who contribute positively to their community.
The award honours the late Frances Penington who, as a Commissioner of the Housing Commission, was the first woman appointed to the board of a statutory authority in Victoria. She was also a strong advocate for women in housing estates and was active in building and supporting the tenant community and sparking community involvement.
Minister for Housing, The Hon Richard Wynne MP presented the award to Kathy at Government House.
Kathy said she was surprised by the award. However, General Manager Engagement and Partnerships, Vicki Hayes, said Kathy was a deserving winner.
“Since moving into her new home Kathy has become an active member of her new community. In addition, Kathy took the time to also support the people moving as part of the redevelopment by being a member of the Residents Advisory Group”, said Vicki.
