If you think Alyson has a passion for crocheting, yarn knot wrong.

OC Connections’ long term Supported Independent Living resident, Alyson has a passion for crocheting. Alyson not only makes a wonderful blanket, but she also crochets a variety of other woollen items such as booties, beanies, and scarves.

After some research and discussion with her support staff, Alyson decided that she would like to donate her pieces to some not-for-profit organisations – with a different organisation receiving her woollen wonders each month. This month Alyson will be donating her goods to the Big Group Hug.

Big Group Hug is a not-for-profit organisation that provides essential items to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families.

The goals of OC Connections participants are ever changing and OC Connections’ Co-achieve model is a way of working with the participants on all the different areas of their life that are important for happy and healthy living. Co-achieve helps OC Connections staff learn how to support the participants to reach their goals. It means OC Connections can help the participants to learn new skills, do new things, decide what they want in life and how to make it happen.

We thank Aly for being so caring and willing to help others. Aly also volunteers her time at OC Connections 773 Warrigal Road reception.  After just over two years of being unable to attend on site due to COVID restrictions, Aly returned to assist with labelling and laminating documents.

Aly is a perfect example of how helping other’s brings joy and meaning to one’s life and our staff are eager to help her achieve these goals.  If you see Aly at our 773 Warrigal Road site, be sure to say hi!
