The NDIS is a new way for people with disabilities to get government support for programs and services they need for support to make independent living as easy as it can be.
The NDIS is different to the way disability support now works: with the NDIS, you have the choice and control to decide what support you want and who will provide this.
The NDIS will help people with disabilities achieve their goals: this may be more involvement in the community, getting a job, being more independent or finding a new place to live.
To make understanding the NDIS easier, OC Connections has created a short video and an easy-to-follow booklet that outlines what the NDIS is, who can get the NDIS and why it’s a better way of supporting people with disabilities.
You may decide to watch the video, read the booklet (or both) either by yourself, with a friend, or perhaps with a family member.
When watching the video, don’t forget to pause whenever there is something you want to think, or talk about.
The booklet can be downloaded and printed, allowing you to read it at your own pace. It features a short quiz that can be done to see if you are eligible for the NDIS.
