This activity offers a great opportunity to develop independent shopping and cooking skills while learning to interact within the local community.

Working in a group, a recipe is chosen and (if necessary) ingredients are modified to suit dietary needs. A shopping list is written, ingredients bought at the supermarket and various tasks are allocated to everyone. Using the kitchen at a local neighbourhood house, participants share the food preparation and cooking tasks, using safe equipment so that everyone can be involved.

Favourite recipes are often repeated to enable participants the opportunity to build familiarity with the dish so they can ideally cook it independently. At the end of the semester, each participant receives a recipe book with photos from the program.
