Visiting local libraries, this program encourages community interaction, the building and maintenance of literacy skills and independent use of a library.

Participants greet librarians when they arrive. Some independently search for specific items or topics of interest, while others are assisted to find a selection of appropriate books to choose from.

Staff members will read books to participants, or encourage them to read themselves and as a group, selections are discussed and ideas and experiences shared from books read.

Participants are given the opportunity to choose books they wish to borrow to promote further learning and independence.
