OC Connections’ swimming program is designed to help participants learn to swim (or become better swimmers) along with improving health and fitness and water safety.

Before swimming, participants are assisted to change, shower and safely enter the pool. The program is designed to improve water skills and includes activities such as squats and kicking on the bar, water play, floating, treading water and swimming techniques like freestyle and backstroke. Some participants choose to use supports, such as noodles and kick boards, if they don’t feel comfortable swimming on their own. After swimming, staff assist participants to leave the pool safely, shower and get changed before leaving.
