Weekly basketball games are played between teams from OC Connections and another local disability services provider.
After players are introduced to one another, a short warm up is held before participants enjoy two, 10-minute games (and a third, if time permits).
Aside from the health and fitness benefits of playing basketball, participants also learn about:
- Money handling (each pays to play)
- Team work (passing the ball to team mates; making sure everyone has a go at shooting goals; shaking hands at the end of the game)
- Developing friendships
- Developing basketball skills (dribbling the ball instead of running while holding the ball; shooting goals; remembering which goal to shoot at; defending the goal appropriately and taking the ball from the opposition team appropriately)
- General life skills
