Our three-bedroom home in Oakleigh provides respite for people with a disability aged 15 – 65. Our disability accommodation service helps foster friendships, build independence and skill development in a safe and supported environment whilst providing respite for both participants and their carers. OUR SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION (RESPITE) SERVICE NURTURES NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Our Short Term Accommodation offers participants the opportunity to foster friendships, learn new living skills and independence and participate in community-based activities.
While in our STA disability accommodation, participants are encouraged to be as independent as possible and responsible for personal choices and decisions. It provides a safe space to develop independent living skills and work towards the goal of independent living.

Our Aim
As with all our disability service support offerings, our Short Term Accommodation (STA) service has a focus on person-centred active support, helping you to achieve the goals you have set at home, at work and doing day activities.
Whether your goal is to build independence, foster friendships, participate in community-based activities or just to take a break from your usual home with support, we will work with you to determine how we can facilitate your goals while staying in our NDIS Short Term Accommodation.
We can work with you on reaching goals such as:
- Developing personal grooming and care habits
- Planning, shopping and preparing for meals
- Selecting and attending social events
- Staying away from your family or usual carers
RESPITE ACCOMMODATION SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR CARERS
OC Connections’ Short Term Accommodation & Assistance provides the opportunity for people with a disability to take a breather from their everyday routine. Disability accommodation also provides carers with a chance to reset while their person is being supported in a safe environment by trained disability service professionals.

OUR SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION SERVICE FOR NDIS PARTICIPANTS
Our Short Term Accommodation is based in Oakleigh, South East Melbourne. It is offered on a short-term, planned or emergency basis and includes overnight accommodation & assistance options. Lengths of stay depend on individual circumstances. We offer Short Term Accommodation every day and night of the year to people with a disability.
Located next to our main day support facility on Warrigal Road, many participants find it easy to access for overnight or weekend stays after a day undertaking their recreational activities.
The level of support provided varies according to an individual’s needs. Our friendly staff are fully trained, and our disability accommodation is a home-like setting so you will feel comfortable when away from your usual home.
We welcome participants aged 15 years and over to take advantage of our Short Term Accommodation service and are mindful of the compatibility with staff and other participants when making bookings to determine your suitability.
As a result, many of our STA residents make new friends and become regular Short Term Accommodation buddies with these friends.
Our facility accommodates three participants at any one time. The venue is not fully accessible and cannot accommodate people with a disability of high physical support needs.
INSIDE OUR NDIS SHORT TERM ACCOMMODATION

The large living area provides a space to relax away from the open plan living area, to take time out or to watch television with friends.

Our open plan kitchen, dining, living opens up to the rear decking, with bbq and ramp access to the back yard.

A fully equipped kitchen for meal preparation and dining room for space to share meals.

We have three bedrooms onsite (plus a staff bedroom) with wardrobe and single beds in each.

A seperate bathroom and toilet allows privacy and the bathroom features an accessible shower

What is short term accommodation?
Short Term Accommodation is facility based respite care for people with disabilities. It’s a place where you can take a break from your usual home and carer’s and be supported by trained disability staff with funding from your NDIS Plan. It covers the cost of your care in another place for up to 14 days at a time, or for the duration noted in your plan.

What support will OC Connections provide through Short Term Disability Accommodation?
OC Connections have a facility based respite home, where NDIS participants from the age of 15 years and over can stay for short periods of time and be supported by our trained staff. Your stay in our disability accommodation can be with other participants, or on your own, depending on bookings and availability.

Who can use the short term accommodation services?
In order to access our Short Term Accommodation service, you must have STA NDIS funding.
You need to have this noted in your NDIS plan. In order to do this, you need to discuss this at your planning meeting.
You may be considered for Short Term Accommodation NDIS funding if you have a goal of moving out of home later on and therefore a need to access respite to develop an understanding of what it is like to be away from home.

How long can I stay at OCC’s Short Term Accommodation services?
NDIS funding for Short Term Accommodation is usually for up to 14 days at a time. If you require a longer stay, please talk to your planner at the time of your meeting, or Support Coordinator. Is Short Term Accommodation Services covered by NDIS?
Yes, NDIS covers Short term accommodation and assistance funding. It’s often funded when your usual carers aren’t available, or for you to try new things. You can speak to your planner or Support Coordinator to find out how to arrange for this to be put in your NDIS plan.

Depending on your needs, goals and funding, OC Connections can assist you in determining which accommodation service is right for you. We offer the following disability accommodation services:
