Peter Wilcocks, OC Connections Chair

Message from our Chairman

On behalf of the board of management I would like to take this opportunity to thank all OC Connections participants and their families for your ongoing support throughout 2018. I would also like to thank the staff and volunteers for your commitment over the past year to ensure participants are able to achieve their personal goals and aspirations.

In October this year OC Connections held its 2018 Annual General Meeting at The Metropolitan Golf Club. The AGM is an opportunity to reflect and celebrate our achievements throughout the year and this year we had plenty to celebrate. Presentations by Chris (parent of Day Support participant, Georgie) and Rishi (supported employee, OCCE) spoke about their personal experiences highlighting the goals that have been achieved over the year and the importance of the work that we do.

At this year’s AGM we farewelled board member, Mark Toohey who has voluntarily contributed for many years in his role as Treasurer, assisting OC Connections to navigate the transition to the NDIS. On behalf of the board I would like to thank Mark for his commitment and all his hard work and wisdom.

We have received generous financial donations from a variety of supporters throughout the year. These donations allow OCC to continue to provide otherwise unfunded supports to our participants and we are grateful to each individual and organisation for their generous support.

In addition to the support The Metropolitan Golf Club provides to OCC during the year the Club has kindly offered to host ‘Play for a Cause’ a charity golf day on January 21 where the Club will open its doors to non-members with all proceeds of this day being donated to OC Connections. Further information about “Play for a Cause” can be found on the OCC website.

December brings with it the excitement of our annual Christmas tree festival which is one of our biggest fundraising events of the year. This event relies on the generosity of our many volunteers who support the Christmas shop in December selling freshly cut Christmas trees. We view this as an important opportunity to engage with the broader community while raising much needed funds for the work that we do. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Dimopoulos MP, for his continued support to the organisation and for again volunteering his time at this great event.

Throughout the year the local Rotary clubs, the Clayton Church of Christ, the Chadstone branch of the Commonwealth Bank and numerous individual volunteers have all assisted OC Connections in providing important services to participants and their families. Volunteer support is invaluable and greatly appreciated by the board and staff at OC Connections.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we look forward to celebrating the achievements of the hundreds of people we will be supporting throughout 2019.
