Our staff work within a demanding and complex environment: our goal is to recruit and retain the best possible people. We support our people with education and training opportunities that enables career development and provides them with the skills necessary to achieve their best.
With the rollout across Australia of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, there has never been a greater need for a disability workforce that understands the scheme, how it works and what it means to people with disabilities. The NDIS presents a new, innovative way forward for the sector and we are committed to providing workplace opportunities to attract and retain quality employees.
Staff education, particularly in the area of NDIS, is a major focus at OC Connections, with training initiatives offered for career growth and skills development.
All new employees undergo mandatory induction to ensure each has a comprehensive understanding of compliance requirements and to educate them in the principles that underpin our vision and values.
In partnership with Registering Training Organisations, such as Skills Training Australia, we support staff to complete training for:
- Certificate IV in Disability
- Diploma of Disability
- Diploma of Community Services Case Management
- First Aid
- Manual Handling
- Medication Administration.
We also partner with Amaze to enable staff to complete training in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Staff and Volunteer Recognition
Understanding that one of our organisation’s greatest assets is its staff and volunteers, each year OC Connections acknowledges years of service milestones with a special celebration.
Opportunity for further education and training is also offered to staff members (or a team) through our Alastair McDonald Bursary, donated by the organisation’s patron and longest-serving member, Alastair McDonald.
