International Day of People with Disability

December 3 marks the annual celebration of people with disability around the world. It is a day that aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and to celebrate their achievements and contributions.

This year the OC Connections and Defence Administrative Assistance Programme (DAAP) team celebrated the day at the Department of Defence with speeches and an exhibition showcasing the colourful stories that contribute to the success of the program.

Amanda and Geoff (pictured below) were invited to present their experiences demonstrating how the programme has positively affected their lives. Supported by a proud introductory speech delivered by our CEO, Therese Desmond (also pictured below), their heartfelt presentation was acknowledged and appreciated by all.

Other participants around Melbourne were encouraged to celebrate at home with morning tea and decorations while discussing the importance of the day and sharing stories.

Every year we celebrate the amazing achievements of many of the people who we support and look forward to future goals being met and barriers being broken. On this and every other day, OC Connections also pays tribute to all the organisations and individuals who support people with a disability, promoting inclusion, opportunity and choice across all aspects of life.
