For the past 7 years the Victorian Disability Awards have recognised and honoured individuals and groups who make an outstanding contribution to empowering people living with a disability to live fulfilling lives as fully inclusive members of their communities.
The Victorian Disability Awards are a joint initiative between National Disability Services (NDS) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
This year’s award ceremony took place on 16 August at Zinc, Federation Square, Melbourne. Presenters included the Hon. Martin Foley (Minister for Housing, Ageing & Disability; Minister for Mental Health; Minister for Creative Industries; Minister for Equality), Kym Peake (Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services) and David Moody (NDS State Manager – Victoria).
The 2017 Victorian Disability Awards recognise excellence in 6 categories listed below:
- Emerging leader award
- Excellence in creating inclusive communities
- Excellence in employment outcomes
- Excellence in promoting health, housing and wellbeing
- Excellence in promoting rights, fairness and safety
- Volunteer award
- Lifetime achievement honour roll
This year the OC Connections Residents Advisory Group pictured below were proud to be finalists in the Volunteer Category for their outstanding contribution to the Accommodation Redevelopment project. This recognition highlights the dedication of members of this Advisory Group who met every fortnight for the three years that the redevelopment was taking place. The group continue to meet to provide feedback about not only the new houses but the new lifestyles people are pursuing. OC Connections would like to thank each member of the Group for their contribution and dedication to ensuring that people living with a disability have contemporary, individualised community living options.
